The winter is always a tough season for the skin and hair – the dry cold air and constant friction with sweaters, coats, hats are all factors that dehydrate hair and makes it prone to static. There are a few habits you can adopt to keep your hair nourished all winter long and avoid flat, dull, brittle hair… here are a few of my tips!
1. Don’t wash your hair every day
Your scalp, just like your skin gets dry in the winter and becomes prone to itchiness and flakiness.
Make sure you cleanse your hair with a nourishing shampoo and follow with a deep treatment, like my Regenerating shampoo and mask with prickly pear seed oil.
Another option for gentle cleansing that won’t strip your hair from its good natural oils is my low-poo formula – cleansing mask with lemon. This will condition your hair all the while cleansing it and make your colour shine!
Make sure you rinse any shampoo, conditioner, mask really well! Or else your scalp will get oily again and you’ll have to wash them more often.
Extra tip: As the last rinse before towel-drying your hair try a few sprays of my Hair finish lotion with Hibiscus vinegar onto your scalp and lengths, it will help rebalance your scalp and avoid it getting oily too quickly and will boost shine!
2. Once a week, mask and relax!
This is actually true all year round, but especially important during the icy winter months.
It’s important to really give your hair all the nutrition it needs in order to replace the lost moisture due to the dry air, this also helps prevent breakage.
Extra tip: My Regenerating mask with rare prickly pear seed oil can be applied onto the roots which also provides deep hydration for your scalp!
3. Choose oil-based products to lock in moisture
My Regenerating line with rare prickly pear seed oil is ideal to provide the best treatment to dry and damaged hair.
The oil boasts 3 times more antioxidants than argan oil and penetrates deep into the hair fibre.
You can leave it on for as little as 2 minutes and will see a difference.
Use the Regenerating plant oil as an overnight or pre-shampoo treatment, this will lock in moisture and avoid having it evaporate as quickly and protect the hair – brushing the oil with a good hairbrush also helps the oil get deep into the hair.

4. Make sure your hair is dry before going outside…
…and avoid using heat tools as much as you can so your hair doesn’t feel too flat!
I always advise when using your blow dryer to hold it at a distance (about 7-8 inches) from your hair, you don’t need to put it so close to your strands it will burn them, holding it further away will still dry and style them the way you want.
You want to focus on your roots because that’s what should be dry first if you’re in a rush in the morning to avoid catching a cold!
5. Any little thing will help to avoid static!
A humidifier, a silk pillowcase or tying your hair with a silk scarf – these will help with static electricity that you usually get because of dry air.
A little bit of my moisturizing hair cream or Hydrating leave-in mist every day goes a long way to keep your hair hydrated, protected and avoid static!
